Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research is a non-profit organization that is committed to educating professionals and the general public in the areas of wellness, health, science, and education. Our interests also include direct and collaborative research activities in these areas. The founders of the Spectrum Institute envision this organization as a forum for the exploration of conventional and innovative programs in health, wellness, and education.
The specific objectives and purposes of Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research set forth in our organizing documents are as follows:
1 . To further the education of professionals and the public in the areas of wellness, health, science, education, and research.
2. To further knowledge and understanding in the areas of wellness, health, science, education, and research.
3 . To recognize spirituality and God as being important components of wellness and healing.
Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research will achieve these purposes through specific goals. We seek to facilitate the paradigm shift of health care delivery from that of "fixing disease" to an integrated collaborative program of prevention, wellness, and health through balancing the mind-body-spirit relationship.
In addition, the Spectrum Institute plans to develop and support innovative educational activities focusing on learner-centered, self-directed, individual and small group learning. This effort creates and promotes programs that meet the unique educational needs of individual learners and lead to optimal personal performance.
Finally, we will facilitate the development and implementation of controlled, scientific research studies that enhance the understanding of health, wellness, and spirituality.
Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research hosted its first educational program on February 12, 1997. This program featured Dr. Steven Vazquez who spoke on the use of colored strobic light in psychotherapy. Dr. Vazquez is an internationally known speaker who has been a pioneer in this innovative psychotherapy. Over 100 people from the community attended this free to the public educational session.
We have held other educational programs in the Chicago area for community groups and healthcare professionals with speaking programs given free of charge at the University of Chicago Medical School and at the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center’s Mind-Body Conference.
In 1997 Spectrum International Institute also received certification from the State of Illinois to provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to Social Workers for educational programs.
In October of 1997, we hosted a 3 day educational seminar at which Dr. Vazquez instructed 25 participants in the techniques of psychotherapy.
On February 22, 1998 Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research jointly sponsored an educational program with the Chicago Medical Society about Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Over 160 physicians from the Midwest attended this program and received Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits for this session.
In February, 1999, we again jointly sponsored an educational program with the Chicago Medical Society for physicians. This was a full day program with breakout sessions as follows:
Our interests are presently focused on healthcare related issues both from a research perspective and through education at the professional, employer, and consumer levels. Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research is currently administrating one private scientific research grant, which was awarded in January of 1998. We are continuing to develop other educational programs and literature targeted to these audiences while exploring the feasibility of engaging in various research activities. We intend to provide continuing education programs to professionals such as physicians, nurses, social workers, chiropractors, and napropaths. The proceeds from these educational programs will be used to support Spectrum’s operations. In addition, we plan to pursue administrative services for research agencies receiving grants along with our own efforts to secure funding for research related to healthcare, educational enhancement, improving personal performance (mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual), and related activities.
Our Web Site allows us to more easily receive and disseminate information via E-Mail, directories, and site linkages. We are also studying the feasibility of developing "Chat Rooms" on the Internet for discussion of related subjects. The founders envision Spectrum as an International Information Resource for professionals and the public on matters of conventional and integrated healthcare, learning enhancement, and personal performance.
Additional information about programs that we have planned is available through our center. In addition to ongoing public education programs, our volunteer staff and Board of Directors have planned future programs as follows:
February, 2000
Chicago Midwest Regional Conference
We will jointly sponsor another educational program with the Chicago Medical Society for physicians. This will be a one and one-half day program. The program content will reflect topics of interest to practicing physicians concerning integrative medicine:
Integrating Alternative and Complementary Medicine In Your Practice
April 14 -16, 2000
Change Your Vision, Change Your Life with Lawrence Sajdecki, O.D.
This is a 3-day weekend retreat for those who want to increase their natural vision ability, not increase their optometric prescription. It really works! The results of our first two weekend retreats were extraordinary. Out of the 19 people who have attended, 100% achieved a vision improvement and in only 3 days. For more information about this next 3-day weekend retreat, refer to our Upcoming Seminars and Workshops.
June 14 – 18, 2000
LIGHT & SOUND 2000
This 5-day program will be an international research and education forum on the use of light and sound in wellness promotion, learning and healing. This program will build upon the work done at LIGHT ‘98 which was held in July of 1998 at Reading University in England. We hope to provide an ongoing forum for the international exchange of information, ideas, research, and innovations in the areas of light and sound. For further information about this conference and a registration application refer to Light and Sound 2000.
This is an exciting time for all of us. As Spectrum International Institute for Wellness, Education, and Research continues to grow and develop; we will need additional energy and support from the international community. Your interest and collaboration as individuals, groups, organizations and communities is welcome and appreciated. We look forward to your correspondence, E-Mail, and/or submission of materials related to light and sound.
